Reverend Dr. Jonathon D. Counts, Pastor In Charge
Rev. Dr. Jonathon D. Counts was born in Trenton, New Jersey but was raised in South Brunswick, New Jersey. He was educated in the South Brunswick Public School System. Graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Counts is also a graduate of the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work with a Master of Social Work Degree specializing in Children and Families. He also graduated from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, with a Master of Divinity Degree. Dr. Counts graduated from Ashland Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry Degree focusing on Transformational Leadership.
Dr. Counts accepted the call to preach at the tender age of 13 under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Keith D. Tillett, pastor of the St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, Ewing, NJ, where he was born and spiritually nurtured. He also served at Shaw Temple, Pennsylvania Avenue, and as Pastor of Abundant Life A.M.E. Zion Church and the SG Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church in Landover, Maryland, where there was tremendous spiritual and numerical growth under his leadership. Alongside his pastoral responsibilities, he is the Dean for Conference Studies in the Allegheny Conference.
Dr. Counts previously served as the Pastor of Homewood A.M.E. Zion Church in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and the Episcopal Director of Evangelism for the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal District. Dr. Counts currently serves as the proud pastor of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church in New Britain, Connecticut.
Dr. Counts is also a licensed Social Worker, where he has practiced in foster care, non-profit, outpatient, and school settings providing individual, group, and family treatment.
He now serves as a Doctor of Ministry Adviser at Ashland Theological Seminary, where he prepares students during the writing process and the public defense of their dissertation. He also serves as a Field Supervisor at Wesley Theological Seminary and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, preparing students for pastoral ministry. He serves as the Dean of the New England Conference Studies, the Dean of Chapel for the North Eastern Episcopal District, Affiliate Member of the Administrative Board of the Department of Church Growth and Development for the A.M.E. Zion Church. Dr. Counts is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. Dr. Counts was recently appointed as Commissioner of the Youth and Family Services Commission for the City of New Britain, CT by Mayor Erin Stewart.

Dr. Counts is happily married to the former Ashley N. Perry and they are parents to Joi, Gabrielle and Jaiden.
He is a published writer whose clinical and theological expertise has been explored in scholarly journals and books. Dr. Counts combines his ministry and profession to empower individuals to be delivered, transformed, renewed, and restored. He is very serious about the calling that God has placed on his life, and this seriousness has never wavered since entering the ministry. He is a family man, preacher, teacher, pastor, worship leader, prophetic voice, intercessor, mentor, and consultant, but most importantly he is a Friend Of God!
